Learning by Observation: A TIHS Visit to the Bikanervala Food Plant

There’s a different kind of learning that happens when students step outside the classroom and witness the world in action. Grades VI to XII recently visited the Bikanervala Food Plant in Jewar, where they explored the journey of how everyday food is processed—from raw ingredients to the final packaged product. This immersive experience gave students a behind-the-scenes look into large-scale production, hygiene standards, automation, and quality control.

While textbooks build the foundation, it is real-world exposure that deepens understanding. **Watching each step unfold before their eyes allows students to grasp the “why” behind every “how.”* When learners observe, question, and reflect for themselves, the learning becomes exponential, something that stays with them far longer than facts alone. This excursion reinforced the idea that knowledge is most powerful when paired with reasoning, experience, and a curious mind.
